Sycamore console table
Fluted drawer front
A blend of classical and contemporary detailing, the flutes on the drawer front echo the subtle lateral ripples in the sycamore
Ombré scorched feet
Visual intrigue and increased contrast with the flooring, also masking inevitable low level scuffs from hallway through-traffic
Matching bowl
A fine hand-turned bowl made from the same wood as the table provides a complementary receptacle for keys and pocket detritus
A light, elegant piece in gloriously silky pale sycamore wood, adorned with a fine hand-turned key bowl in matching timber. The majority of the load is borne by wall-mounted Z cleats, allowing the fine tapered legs to simply provide poise, balance and proportion.
The clients were looking for a slimline console for a narrow but well-lit entrance hallway. The sycamore tones contrast well against the dark green wall panelling and engineered oak flooring. The scorched feet both provide an unusual visual detail, increasing the contrast with the flooring, as well as serving a practical purpose; such pale timber would be prone to picking up low level scuffmarks from passing feet and buggy wheels, which the graduated darkening helps to mask.
A single runner-mounted paraphernalia drawer completes the piece, with ample storage space for odds and sods. The fluting detail on the drawer front echoes the lateral ripples subtly visible through the timber.
