Rippled English walnut slab dining table

A large waney-edge dining table made from two substantial slabs of finest rippled English walnut book-match jointed down the centre.

The client was refurbishing a domestic conversion of a South London industrial building and wanted a statement table to take pride of place in the dining area. The interior designers specified a dark wood with natural edges, so I looked high and low for the perfect timber. The wood has huge amounts of character and wonderful tonal variation, with a couple of end cracks retained, stabilised and celebrated with contrasting wenge bowties. The ripples in this English walnut are unlike anything I've seen before in such large boards.
