hollow wood longboard

A labour of love for nigh on two years, this nine foot beast was one of the most satisfying of my side projects. Crafted like an airplane wing, with an internal skeleton of stringer and struts, it is decked in planks of paulownia and western red cedar and with shaped paulownia strip rails. Decorative nose and tail blocks use a sandwich of sapele and balsa. Glassed by my own fair hands, with a single fin box, vent and leash plug to add complexity, it's seen a few outings around Devon and Cornwall, but it certainly couldn't be called a lightweight board.
